  《本草綱目》，明代李時珍著，從第一版出書到現在，已經有400多年了，先後出版過數十種版本。並被英、法、日、俄、德等國翻譯成英、法、日、俄、德語出版。

  《本草綱目》全書共計190萬字，分為五十二卷，另在卷首還附刊了一些有關的重要資料，共收錄了1892種藥物 ，藥方11096首，插圖1160幅。其全書可分為三部分：

卷首部分----「本草綱目凡例」。其內容包含本卷的目錄以及附圖1160幅。

[color=red]卷一至卷四部分----「序例」 和「百病主治藥」。[/color]

卷五至卷五十二部分----這是《本草綱目》的主要內容，它把所收錄的1892藥物細分為16部，部下又分類，總計60類,在大多數藥物後面，都附有歷代的經驗藥方11096個，其中有8160個是來自李時珍親自收集。

[color=red]《本草綱目》[/color]欄目，本數據庫所收錄《本草綱目》的版本是金陵版，依據主要是劉衡如的點校本。由於本書內容繁多，且重點又放在1892種藥物的主治功能上；因而,本數據庫只能著重選擇原著中，按藥物的「正名」、「釋名」、「氣味」、「主治」、「附方」等五部分組成字段名的數據庫。以便讀者搜尋、瀏覽和查詢。這樣，既為那些從事《本草綱目》的研究學者方便查詢，同時也為普通讀者方便搜集治病的藥物。並為滿足醫療臨床、預防醫學、養生保健、科研和教學等，提供準確、詳實的材料；也為開發新藥研究提供線索和工、農業生產提供指導和參考。
